The Canada Learning Bond (CLB) is a no strings attached grant of up to $2,000 to help lower income families pay for their children’s post secondary education – but nobody knew about it.

The Omega Foundation wanted to change that because savings of any amount greatly increase a child’s likelihood of attending college or university.

We created SmartSAVER.org to get the word out through a 16-language website, support materials for community outreach, and ads in mainstream and ethnic media. In Phase 2, we added an RESP application portal that helps families start the application process and connect with a bank in minutes.

In Toronto alone, 27,000 more children are getting the Canada Learning Bond than before the campaign started. The uptake rate is up over 30% nationally. In the next five years, SmartSAVER will help Canadians claim almost $500,000,000 in Canada Learning Bond grants.
